Three-Year-Old Nurdaulet Undergoes Successful Esophagogastroplasty at Almaty's Scientific Center

A three-year-old patient named Nurdaulet has made a remarkable recovery after undergoing a unique esophagogastroplasty procedure at the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Children's Surgery in Almaty. This operation, performed by senior pediatric surgeon Nurlan Akparov, involved transplanting the entire stomach to replace Nurdaulet's esophagus.

Nurdaulet was diagnosed with esophageal atresia immediately after birth. This congenital condition, which affects the development of the esophagus, left Nurdaulet unable to eat regular food. Instead, he was fed through a tube for three years following his first operation in his hometown of Kokchetav.

The long-awaited moment finally arrived when Nurdaulet was brought to the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Children's Surgery in Almaty. Prior to the operation, certain examinations and pre-operative preparations were conducted to ensure the best possible outcome.

The operation, which lasted over 5 hours, was considered more complex due to the delicate nature of children's digestive systems. Esophagogastroplasty is a surgical procedure involving the reconstruction or repair of the esophagus by using parts of the stomach, typically by creating a new passage or connection between the esophagus and the stomach to restore continuity or function.

Nurdaulet's mother expressed her happiness and disbelief at the successful operation. "I can't believe it's been three years since he had his first operation," she said, "and now, he's able to eat regular food. This is a long-awaited moment for us."

The surgical department at the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Children's Surgery performs over 1000 surgeries annually, with the cardiothoracic department performing approximately 600 surgeries. These numbers highlight the centre's commitment to helping young Kazakhs overcome severe diseases.

Local specialists at the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Children's Surgery are at the forefront of providing life-changing surgeries like the one Nurdaulet underwent. The centre's success is a testament to their dedication and expertise.

Nurdaulet's current condition is stable, and he is now able to eat regular food. His recovery is a beacon of hope for other children facing similar challenges.
