Ramona Chavez, Devoted Matriarch, Passes Away at 81
Ramona Chavez, affectionately known as Grammy, peacefully departed this life on Monday, 28th July, 2025, at the age of 81. Surrounded by her beloved family, she spent her final moments surrounded by love and comfort.
Chavez leaves behind a rich legacy, including her husband of 61 years, Joe, four children and their families, her brother John Contreras, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Elfego and Anita Contreras, brothers Elfie and Ronald Contreras, parents-in-law Simon and Magdalena Chavez, son-in-law Michael Moya, and nephews Nick Chavez and Ronald (Ronnie) Contreras.
A devout Catholic, Ramona was deeply devoted to her faith and the Blessed Virgin Mother. For over 40 years, she attended "her hour" at the Ascension Adoration Chapel every Thursday at 10 am. Her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds, and she enthusiastically supported their activities.
Ramona had a passion for bowling, participating in leagues and tournaments across several states. She also spent more than 20 years as a hot air balloon chase crew member, cherishing birthday rides in Bob Kross's hot air balloons named Mr. Happy, Mr. Happy 2, and Morning Manna.
