Weekly outcomes from RIA's "our website" regarding The Simpsons and MUGISO case unveiled
So, Yekaterinburg's Heat Wave
This week, the Sverdlovsk region is sweltering under the summer sun. Remember, it's during these warm days that health issues like skin cancer can arise. Here's a quick guide on how to tan safely to avoid any trouble.
While swimming is alluring, it's forbidden in Yekaterinburg. Water bodies, including Lake Shartash and the VIZ pond, have over 90 "No Swimming" signs installed to keep residents safe.
"The Simpsons" and Family Values
An unexpected endorsement came from the Russian Orthodox Church for an American sitcom. Metropolitan Eugene of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye applauded "The Simpsons" for its depiction of a strong family, noting that Russian cartoons, such as "Smeshariki" and "Masha and the Bear," often lack such portrayals.
Deputy chief editor of "Novy Den," Ekaterina Norseeva, shared her thoughts on the cartoon theme.
Unfortunately, the summer season also sees an increase in child accidents. At Children's City Clinical Hospital No. 9 in Yekaterinburg, 23 children who fell out of windows have been admitted since the beginning of 2025, with one fatality.
Legal Concerns
The trial began for former heads and employees of the regional Ministry of State Property Management (MUGISO) in the Kyrovsky District Court of Yekaterinburg. The defendants are accused of abuse of power and embezzlement, including two former deputy ministers.
In a separate case, the formerly imprisoned deputy head of Degtyarsk, Viktor Soldatov, was found guilty of intermediation in bribery. Despite the prosecutor's request for an eight-year strict-regime sentence, Soldatov received a suspended sentence. His actions were reportedly in the interests of his boss, the mayor of Degtyarsk, Vadim Pilnikov, who is currently under trial.

Safety Tips for Tanning in Yekaterinburg
With the long, sunny days in Yekaterinburg comes the risk of sun-related health problems. To tan safely, consider the following recommendations:
- Limit UV Exposure
- It's essential to avoid overexposure to UV radiation as it can cause skin cancer, premature aging, and eye damage.
- A "base tan" does not provide protection or have any safety benefits.
- Use Sun Protection
- Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, reapplying every two hours or after swimming or sweating.
- Wear protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses.
- Time Your Sun Exposure
- Seek shade during peak sunlight hours (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.) and limit tanning in the summer months.
- Consider Alternatives to Sun Exposure
- Sunless tanning products, such as those containing dihydroxyacetone (DHA), are safe and don't involve UV exposure.
- Pre-grade sunless tanning products can provide a customized, streak-free glow without the risks of UV damage.
- Always prepare skin by exfoliating before sunless tanning for an even look.

- Be cautious of sun allergies or conditions like polymorphous light eruption.
- Consult a healthcare professional before using injectable or experimental tanning aids.
- Amidst the ongoing heat wave in Yekaterinburg, it's crucial to focus not only on enjoying the summer sun but also on maintaining health-and-wellness, particularly regarding skin cancer.
- To ensure the safety of residents, swimming in Lake Shartash and the VIZ pond is prohibited, with over 90 "No Swimming" signs installed.
- Meanwhile, crime-and-justice updates involve a trial for former heads and employees of the regional Ministry of State Property Management, as well as a guilty verdict for Viktor Soldatov, the formerly imprisoned deputy head of Degtyarsk, for intermediation in bribery.
