Steps Taken to Combat Female Violence
In the district of Neuwied, Germany, the equality officers are spearheading an initiative to raise awareness and shift societal attitudes towards violence against women. This project will be officially launched on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November 2024.
Thomas Herschbach, the press spokesperson for Neuwied District Administration, is the point of contact for information regarding this project. He can be reached at [email protected] or by phone at 02631/803-224. The press and public relations department is located at Wilhelm-Leuschner-Str. 9, 56564 Neuwied.
The project aims to educate the public and provide support to survivors of violence. Beyond the planned poster campaign with the slogan "Speak Out - Stand Up Against Violence", additional activities will include public readings, awareness workshops, film screenings, solidarity walks or rallies, informational booths, and collaborations with local organizations to provide support services and educational materials.
Landrat Achim Hallerbach supports this initiative, stating that the equality office provides a platform for supporting women in need. He encourages the public to participate in the events and to learn more about the issue.
For more detailed information, the equality offices in the district administration, the city of Neuwied, and local associations are valuable resources. Further activities will take place around the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in Stadt and Kreis Neuwied, with details available on the Neuwied district administration's homepage (www.kreis-neuwied.de).
It is important to remember that violence in any form, whether emotional, physical, sexual, or financial, is fundamentally unacceptable and violates the right to physical integrity and free personal development guaranteed in the Basic Law. In 2023, the Federal Criminal Police Office recorded 256,276 cases of domestic violence, but the actual number is likely much higher.
The Neuwied District Administration encourages everyone to stand together against violence and to support the efforts to create a safer and more equal society for all.
The following initiative, led by the equality officers in Neuwied District Administration, expands beyond violence prevention to focus on health-and-wellness, specifically women's health, through a variety of activities such as educational workshops, film screenings, and informational booths, all aimed at creating a safer and more equal society. On 25 November 2024, the project will be officially launched in conjunction with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
