In a chilling incident, a six-year-old girl went missing from the Rulantica water park in Rust, Germany, on Saturday evening. The girl was later found after a distressing two-hour ordeal, several kilometers away from the park. A 31-year-old Romanian man is now the prime suspect in this sexual abduction and assault case[1][2][3].

Initially, authorities followed up on leads about another suspect, but this individual was quickly ruled out. The focus then turned to the 31-year-old man, who is believed to have lured the child from the park, taken her to a wooded area, and may have already fled to Romania, his country of origin[1][2][3].

The suspect is said to have a full black beard and short dark hair, but he might have changed his appearance. His passport is missing, supporting the belief that he has fled. German police are conducting a comprehensive cross-border manhunt along with European partners to track him down[1][3].

The incident occurred around 8:20 PM when the girl lost sight of her parents inside the water park. Surveillance footage helped identify the suspect, who reportedly has a prior criminal record related to theft and fraud but no known previous sexual offenses. Police have issued an arrest warrant on charges of sexual abuse of a minor[2].

Authorities describe the suspect as having a full black beard and short dark hair but warn he might have changed his appearance. The suspect’s passport is missing, which supports the belief that he has fled to Romania. German police are conducting a comprehensive cross-border manhunt along with European partners to track him down[1][3].

The water park's owners and staff are deeply affected by the incident. All 700 employees at Rulantica have been briefed and are on high alert following the attack[1][3]. Rulantica, which opened in Rust in November 2019, derives its name from a play on words combining "Rust" and "Atlantic".

Further analysis of the video material then led to an unrelated witness who was able to provide the investigators with secure information about the identity of the now-sought 31-year-old on Tuesday. On Tuesday, his apartment was searched, and clothing items that he may have worn at the time of the crime were secured[1][3].

The suspect, a 31-year-old Romanian, is being sought internationally and was identified through surveillance videos[1][3]. It is not clear at this time if the man or his passport was found in the search of his apartment. The girl's parents were desperately searching for her in the park after the incident. No indications have been found that the girl was raped[1][3].

The police are searching for him both openly and covertly across borders. The suspect is said to have asked the girl to perform sexual acts[1][3]. This man could not be reached on Sunday and was only contacted on Monday[1][3].
