Six-year-old child fatally succumbs during purported exorcism; body found enshrouded in fabric as mother maintains divine instruction compelled her to expel demons from boy.
According to reports, a Mom in Florida has been accused of brutally killing her son, six-year-old Ra'myl Pierre, in a messed-up attempt to exorcise demons from his body.
Rhonda Paulynice, a 41-year-old mother from Fort Pierce, was detained after authorities uncovered her son's lifeless body, wrapped in cloth, inside her home on May 30. The little boy had vanished from school near two weeks ago.
During an investigation, cops discovered Ra'myl's body in his bedroom, with only his face exposed. Paulynice, who had initially kept her son's disappearance a secret from authorities, confessed to smothering him, according to an affidavit seen by Treasure Coast News.
She alleged she thought if she suppressed her son, the "demons" would vanish, and he would miraculously come back to life.
The mom continued to visit her son's room, checking for signs of life daily, but despite her efforts, the child did not wake up. Paulynice then believed she had "freed him of a spirit"[1].
A Questionable Faith
Paulynice claimed she was not in control of her "vessel" - her body - and that "God/Father" had instructed her[2]. She contended that she had been having nightmares featuring messages from the divine, which had warned her of forthcoming events.
The mom reported noticing changes in her son's behavior and felt he was under control by a "spirit" and an "enemy." She declared her son died while she was trying to "exorcise demons out of his body."
St. Lucie County Sheriff Richard Del Toro added that Paulynice felt her son was being possessed and that she acted on divine command to exorcise the evil spirits[3].
Alleged Indifference Toward Her Child's Death
Despite the tragic death of her son, Paulynice appeared "indifferent to her son's death, the role she played in his death or her actions of not reporting his death." Authorities noted this indifference during questioning and wrote it in their court report[4].
Following Paulynice's arrest, St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office announced they were committed to uncovering the truth behind the tragic incident. They are still waiting for toxicology results and conducting a thorough investigation, urging anyone with information to come forward[5].
In a statement, St. Lucie Public Schools expressed their compassion for the boy's family, friends, classmates, and all who loved him. Grief counseling and support services have been offered to affected students and staff.
Legal Trouble Awaits
Paulynice is facing several charges, including second-degree murder[6], failure to report a death[7], and alteration of the scene of a deceased body[8]. She was booked into jail on May 30, with a $150,000 bond.
This isn't the first time the mother has been charged with a crime - In February, she was arrested for domestic battery, but the charges were later dropped[9].
