Secretly recording men and a child in Asda's public restrooms, leading to a 29-year-old nurse being expelled from her profession.
Registered Nurse Pheddie Delos Reyes has been removed from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register following a conviction for voyeurism and the creation of an indecent image of a child. The conviction, which occurred at Swindon Magistrates' Court in June 2023, pertains to actions Delos Reyes took in the men's toilets of an Asda store.
Delos Reyes, 29, secretly filmed multiple individuals, including one child, in the restroom. CCTV footage from the supermarket revealed that he had remained in the facility for nearly three hours, during which about fifty men and children entered the toilets. The urinals were out of order, leaving only one cubicle available, which Delos Reyes occupied. Videos of men and the child urinating were found on devices seized from Delos Reyes.
During the trial, it was revealed that Delos Reyes had been a registered nurse since 2019. He was given a suspended prison sentence for his crimes, but the NMC deemed his convictions incompatible with the standards expected of a registered nurse. The NMC panel imposed an 18-month interim suspension order to cover the potential appeal period. In their judgment, the panel stated that Delos Reyes' convictions demonstrated a significant attitudinal concern, indicating a potential risk to patients.
While Delos Reyes has expressed some remorse, the panel noted a limited understanding of the impact of his actions. The severity of the offenses, coupled with concerns about his fitness to practice as a nurse, led to the decision to strike him off the register.
The registered nurse, Pheddie Delos Reyes, was removed from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register due to his conviction in the general news category, which involved voyeurism and creating an indecent image of a child in a health-and-wellness setting, specifically a restroom at an Asda store. This incident in crime-and-justice, that occurred in June 2023, was a significant breach of the standards expected for a registered nurse, as noted by the NMC panel.
