Russians carry out drone assault on Kharkiv, causing injury to 11 individuals, including an infant
In the heart of Kharkiv, Ukraine, on August 1, 2025, a Molniya drone attack in the Kyivskyi district left 11 civilians injured, among them three children[3]. The attack, which targeted a residential area, also resulted in the tragic death of a 75-year-old woman and injuries to two men aged 62 and 64[1].
The Molniya drone, an FPV (first-person view) drone capable of carrying up to 5 kilograms of explosives, is a weapon of choice for Russian forces[1][3]. The drone strike occurred near a high-rise building, causing damage to its windows[2].
The attack unfolded at approximately 22:41, with emergency medical teams quickly arriving at the scene. The initial reports suggested two injured individuals, but as the night progressed, the number rose to five, six, seven, and eventually 11[1][4]. Among the wounded were two children aged nine and ten, a five-month-old infant, and two women aged 25 and 35 who were hospitalized[1][4].
As of now, five individuals remain under the care of doctors in the hospital, including the three children[4]. The attack also left a tree uprooted, serving as a stark reminder of the violence that unfolded[2].
Local authorities have confirmed the casualties. Ihor Terekhov, the Mayor of Kharkiv, reported seven injured individuals, while Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration, reported six[1][4].
This unfortunate incident underscores the impact of these drone attacks on civilians, particularly vulnerable groups such as children and infants. The Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv continues to bear the brunt of these attacks, adding to the ongoing suffering in the region.
