Regensburg Offers Certified 'SmokeFree' Course to Help Locals Quit Smoking

The Regensburg Health Department is set to host a certified 'SmokeFree' compact course in November 2025, offering a structured programme to help locals quit smoking. The course, led by Irmgard Pernpeintner, a certified SmokeFree trainer, is certified by the Institute for Therapy Research and the Federal Institute for Public Health. Participants can expect a comprehensive approach, with a participation fee of 180 euros, reimbursed up to 80 percent by statutory health insurances.

The course is designed in three phases, starting with an exploration of participants' attitudes towards smoking, followed by strategies to cope with challenging situations, and concluding with a focus on the positive aspects of a smoke-free life. It consists of a 90-minute introduction session and three weekly sessions of three hours each, supplemented by two telephone sessions. Additionally, participants receive a 'SmokeFree Handbook' and free information brochures. Course evaluations show that around one third of participants remain smoke-free even a year after completing the programme.

A free info and introduction lecture will be held on Wednesday, 29 October, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Regensburg County Office, providing an opportunity for interested individuals to learn more about the course and its benefits.
