Police in Sudbury have confiscated $300,000 worth of illicit marijuana.
In a bid to ensure consumer safety and combat illicit drug trafficking, the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) conducted a raid on an illegal cannabis dispensary known as "The Red Eyes" located on Rutherglen Crescent. The operation took place on August 7, 2025, with assistance from the Emergency Response and Intelligence Units.
The raid was prompted by community concerns about the dispensary selling cannabis products to minors. As a result, those involved in the illegal operation were arrested, and a significant quantity of illicit cannabis products was seized during the operation.
The seized items included approximately 200 pounds of marijuana, cannabis vape pens, edibles, and hashish. The GSPS executed a Cannabis Act search warrant at a residence in Sudbury in relation to the raid.
Charges were laid against the suspect related to the illegal sale and distribution of cannabis outside the regulated framework established by the Cannabis Act. These charges include selling cannabis illegally, failing to comply with labelling regulations, having labelling that appeals to young people, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in bail court in Sudbury on Friday. This raid is part of GSPS’s broader effort to combat illicit drug trafficking and protect community safety in Greater Sudbury.
It is recommended that consumers purchase cannabis from licensed, legitimate retailers to ensure they are adhering to the regulations set forth by the Cannabis Act. The sale of cannabis is regulated in the Province of Ontario.
