Pharmacies Face Financial Crisis as Fee Increase Postponed
Pharmacies are grappling with financial pressure due to the postponement of a planned boost in their fixed fee, according to Thomas Preis, president of the German Association of Pharmacists (ABDA). The fee was slated to rise to 9.50 euros, but this has now been pushed back until next year.
Preis criticized the delay, stating that it intensifies the economic situation of many pharmacies. He demanded swift action from politics and called for an immediate one-time hike in the pharmacy fee. ABDA seeks this increase to assist pharmacies in coping with rising costs, including wage increases due to the minimum wage boost next year.
Pharmacies currently save health insurance funds more than five billion euros every year through discount agreements. Despite this, the planned adjustment of the pharmacy fee has been repeatedly delayed. A one-time increase to 9.50 euros was agreed upon in the coalition agreement but is now pushed back until next year.
The postponement of the pharmacy fee increase has sparked concerns among pharmacists, with ABDA demanding immediate action. The association seeks an urgent one-time increase in the fee to help pharmacies manage their financial challenges and continue providing essential services.
