"Old age fitness demonstration with EverydayTest: Kickoff event highlights"
Dr. Patricia Becher, Social Affairs Commissioner from the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs, Senior Citizens, Sports, Health, and Care, is emphasizing the importance of exercise for a good life in old age. On Monday, September 1st, from 12 to 5 PM, Wiesbaden will host the event "Active and fit for life - the everyday fitness test for people aged 60 and above" at the Wiesbaden Town Hall.
The event will kick off a permanent offer for everyday fitness tests in Wiesbaden's city districts. Sports clubs and carers of elderly care will organize the tests, which aim to benefit older people in the city in the long term, as stated by Dr. Becher.
From 12 to 2:30 PM, visitors can try out various fitness activities on the Schlossplatz and engage in conversations at information booths. At the town hall, visitors can test their everyday fitness at six stations of the Wiesbaden Sports Circle.
The official program begins in the city council chamber at 3 PM, opened by Angelika Dortmann, chairperson of the Senior Council. Dr. Becher and Sports Commissioner Ann Kathrin Linsenhoff from the Hessian Ministry will speak during the event, followed by expert presentations from Dr. Volker Cihlar, Karsten Schütze, and Dr. Christoph Rott.
Dr. Cihlar, head of the elderly care department of the state capital Wiesbaden, will present the benefits of exercise in old age. Dr. Rott from the Institute of Gerontology at Heidelberg University will show how the everyday fitness test can help maintain independence in old age. Mr. Schütze, head of the sports office of the state capital Wiesbaden, will inform about the sports landscape in Wiesbaden.
Exercise, according to Dr. Becher, strengthens health, creates encounters, and maintains independence. The everyday fitness test provides orientation and encourages many people to stay active. The goal is to create structures that benefit older people in Wiesbaden in the long term.
Participation in the event is free, and it is open to senior women and men who want to test their fitness and learn about fitness options in Wiesbaden. From the end of this year, everyday fitness tests will be regularly held in various city districts.
Dr. Becher mentions that many partners in the city are involved in creating these long-term structures. She stresses that exercise is an investment in a good life in old age. The event marks the start of a permanent offer for everyday fitness tests in Wiesbaden's city districts.
