Breaking News: Explosion and Fire at Buchholz Refugee Shelter

An explosion and subsequent fire at a refugee shelter on Bremer Street in Buchholz, Germany, have left one person dead and multiple others injured. The incident occurred around 11:30 AM on Monday afternoon.

According to reports, a man is believed to have poured accelerant, presumably gasoline, at the shelter, leading to the tragic event. As a result, 30 residential containers were affected, and 20 individuals, including a police officer, his colleague, and one social worker, were injured.

Emergency services responded swiftly, with emergency doctors, including two helicopters, being flown in to treat the injured. Eight of the injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals by ambulance or helicopter.

Sadly, a body was found in the building, identified as a 28-year-old Ethiopian national residing at the shelter. The 28-year-old is believed to be responsible for the explosion.

One of the injured police officers, a 44-year-old senior commissioner, was airlifted to the Boberg trauma hospital and is currently in intensive care. As of Tuesday, his condition is not life-threatening.

The crime scene investigation began after the fire was extinguished, and the estimated damage to the shelter is 250,000 euros.

Residents of the shelter were temporarily relocated due to the incident. However, the latest updates or details about this specific incident, including the condition of the injured, are not found in the current search results.
