Mourning and Sorrow Following the 90th Birth anniversary
Sonja Walter, the beloved matriarch of the Walter family and a significant figure in one of Europe's largest construction companies, Walter Participations and Real Estate AG (WBI), passed away on June 10, 2023, at the Walter family estate, Siebenbrunn. She was 90 years old.
Sonja Walter was born in Reichenberg (now Liberec) and married Prof. Ignaz Walter, the founder of the family business. Together, they raised three children: Ralf, Roy, and Nicole, who now hold prominent positions in the family business and the Ignaz-Walter Foundation.
Prof. Ignaz Walter passed away on October 27, 2023. Sonja Walter celebrated her 90th birthday in good health and high spirits, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication.
Ralf Walter, the current chairman of the supervisory board of WBI, emphasised that Sonja Walter took care of everything related to child-rearing while Ignaz built the business. Dr. Ralf Walter is responsible for the strategic direction of the company, while Dr. Roy Walter, Sonja's son, oversees the operational business as CEO. Nicole Walter heads the Ignaz-Walter Foundation, which focuses on charitable activities and philanthropy.
Sonja Walter was known for her exceptional culinary skills, ranging from Bavarian home cooking to Mediterranean and Provençal dishes. Her six grandchildren, Caroline, Vincent, Victoria, Marcel, Julian, and Dominik, were her great joy. The funeral service for Sonja Walter will take place on July 3 at St. Albert's Church in Haunstetten.
Despite her significant contributions to the Walter family and WBI, publicly available sources do not widely document Sonja Walter as a prominent figure linked to the company. For an accurate, detailed biography and assessment of her achievements and impact, consulting official company records, corporate publications, or trusted business databases would be necessary.
Sonja Walter's philanthropic endeavors expanded beyond the Ignaz-Walter Foundation, with the focus on health-and-wellness and aging sections, demonstrating her commitment to the well-being of the elderly.
In her later years, Sonja Walter continued her lifelong passion for science, incorporating nutritional and health-related research into her charitable activities, connecting her love for family and her interest in wellness.
