Measles Case Confirmed in Crestwood, Illinois: Third in Cook County This Year
A case of measles has been confirmed in the suburb of Crestwood, Illinois. Dr. Robert McNamara has confirmed the childhood disease, which is the third such case in suburban Cook County this year.
The adult who contracted measles likely caught the virus after coming into contact with a sick child who had traveled through O'Hare airport last month. Symptoms of measles can appear up to 21 days following exposure.
Anyone who shopped at Aldi grocery store at 4820 Cal Sag Road in Crestwood on September 24 between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. might have been exposed to the virus. The infected person was at the store during that time, and health officials urge anyone who was there to monitor for symptoms.
This is the third case of measles in suburban Cook County this year. The adult who tested positive for measles has an unknown vaccination status. Health officials remind the public that measles is highly contagious and vaccination is the best way to prevent it.
