Lively Existence - Dance Your Way Through "Don't Fall, Dance" Series

The eagerly anticipated German-Dutch co-produced miniseries, "Don't Fall, Dance" (or "Nicht fallen, tanzen" in German), is set to stream on ZDF's streaming portal from the 1st of August. This poignant and intimate series is inspired by the autobiographical book of the same name, written by Margot van Schayk, a dancer and choreographer who battled an aggressive form of cancer.

The series tells the story of Emma, a dancer who danced with death throughout her adolescence and is now cancer-free, or so she hopes. The narrative follows Emma as she navigates her life in the USA, her career in dance and theatre, and her personal relationships, all while dealing with the lingering effects of her past illness.

Emma's journey is not just a struggle against illness but also a celebration of life, resilience, and the healing power of art. The series is a blend of authentic personal storytelling, compelling performances, and choreography, deeply rooted in the autobiographical source material.

Throughout the series, Emma's carefree spirit and love for life are repeatedly interrupted by reminders of her past illness and its consequences. Emma's story is told in the exciting present, with occasional flashbacks to a childhood filled with illness and therapy.

One of the recurring characters in the series is Emma's overprotective mother. Another significant aspect of the series is the humour and vulnerability it brings to the table. Despite its heavy themes, "Don't Fall, Dance" is not a heavy drama but a living celebration of Margot van Schayk's life, filled with laughter, honesty, and curiosity about what life has to offer next.

Margot van Schayk wrote her autobiography as the cancer was returning for the fourth time, primarily for her young son. Sadly, Margot van Schayk passed away due to cancer in 2021, before the series was completed.

In the series, Emma meets a man and moves in with him after just a few months, gets married, and even writes a book. The series will air back-to-back on ZDFneo on the 5th of August from 22:30, following its release on ZDF's streaming portal on the 1st of August.
