Kerala Congress Experiencing Turbulence Amidst Accusations of Sexual Misconduct against Rahul Mamkootathil, Spurring Calls for Resignation

In a shocking turn of events, the Kerala Congress is grappling with an unprecedented political crisis following allegations of sexual misconduct against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. The controversy has exposed deep divisions within the party, with senior leaders publicly calling for Mamkootathil's resignation as MLA.

The scandal erupted after multiple women accused Mamkootathil of sexual misconduct, and audio clips featuring him discussing pregnancy termination and making threatening statements were leaked. The allegations have sparked widespread outrage, leading several party leaders to demand Mamkootathil's resignation.

Uma Thomas, a senior party leader, has been one of the most vocal voices in this regard. She has publicly demanded that Rahul Mamkootathil resign as MLA, citing his moral responsibility as a people's representative. KK Rama of the Revolutionary Marxist Party of India has also joined the chorus, demanding Mamkootathil's resignation and stating that he does not deserve to stay in a position like this.

The controversy has created an unprecedented situation where senior party members are directly contradicting the official party line. Congress leader Shanimol Usman has gone so far as to state that Rahul Mamkootathil should withdraw from mainstream politics. K Muraleedharan, another senior party leader, has emphasized that the audio clips have amplified the seriousness of the matter.

However, the Congress party has taken a more measured approach. They have suspended Mamkootathil for six months, preventing him from participating in legislative and party meetings. The decision to suspend rather than demand immediate resignation was made after legal consultation to prevent a costly by-election in the Palakkad constituency.

Despite the calls for his resignation, the search results do not mention any party leaders who have openly spoken about the resignation of MLA Rahul Mamkootathil in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the Congress party will navigate this political crisis.
