Jersey's Sexual Assault Support Services Consolidated Under One Roof by 2026
The Government of Jersey is set to consolidate its sexual assault and abuse support services under one roof. The new building, to be constructed at the former Heathfields Children's Centre in St Saviour, will house the SARC, Jersey Domestic and Sexual Abuse Support, and Jersey Victims First. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2026, subject to additional funding approval.
The project, initially planned for completion by May 2023, faced delays due to rising construction costs pushing it over budget. Inflation increases were cited as the primary reason for the additional costs. However, the Government has allocated extra funding for the project in its 2026 budget proposal, ensuring the project's viability. All planning and building control permissions are now in place, paving the way for the construction to commence.
To facilitate the project, the Government will seek expressions of interest from local contractors in the next couple of weeks. This move aims to engage local businesses in the construction process and support the island's economy.
The new Sexual Assault Referral Centre will replace the current Dewberry House facility in St Saviour. By bringing together multiple support services under one roof, the new centre aims to provide more efficient and accessible assistance to victims of sexual assault and domestic abuse. The project's completion in 2026, pending final funding approval, will mark a significant step in improving support services for victims in Jersey.
