IPL Safety Concerns: Jersey Proposes Stricter Regulation
Julie Naidu, proprietor of a local laser clinic, has been treating clients harmed by unqualified beauticians using IPL machines in New Jersey. The lack of regulation and training for IPL treatments in Jersey has raised concerns about client safety.
IPL (intense pulsed light) treatments, popular for hair removal and skin rejuvenation, are not subject to official training or regulation in Jersey. This has led to beauticians offering these treatments without proper knowledge, posing risks to clients. Julie Naidu, who has been treating those affected, welcomes the proposed regulation changes but stresses the need for stricter oversight of IPL treatments.
In England, most cosmetic use of IPLs and lasers has been deregulated since 2010. However, this is not the case in Wales, Northern Ireland, or Scotland. The new law in Jersey aims to regulate treatment with class 3B or class 4 laser products, ensuring they are performed by or under the supervision of a medical practitioner or dentist. Currently, laser clinics in Jersey are regulated, but the new Draft Regulation of Care Law seeks to enhance this regulation.
The Draft Regulation of Care Law in Jersey aims to improve the regulation of laser clinics and introduce stricter oversight of IPL treatments. This move, welcomed by Julie Naidu, is expected to enhance client safety and ensure that beauticians are properly trained and qualified.
