Individual succumbs during unloading process of Andy Warhol's BMW M1 Art Car in Washington DC

In a shocking turn of events, a tragic incident occurred on Wednesday at the Washington, D.C., National Mall. The incident involved the unloading of the 1979 Andy Warhol BMW M1 Art Car, a famous piece of automotive history.

During the unloading process, a fatal accident took place. Medics responded to a call for 'a man trapped under a vehicle,' and unfortunately, the individual was found suffering critical injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts, the truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The M1 was being delivered down a ramp from an enclosed auto transport truck, operated by Reliable Carriers, a company known for its excellent car-moving services. The Hagerty Foundation, which was hosting the 'Cars at the Capitol' pop-up car show, confirmed that the incident resulted in the cancellation of the events scheduled for September 18-23.

The Warhol M1, with its striking looks and racing heritage, is a significant piece of automotive history. Painted by the renowned artist Andy Warhol and raced at LeMans, the M1 has a high dollar value. Hagerty, in a statement, expressed their condolences for the deceased truck driver's family.

Although reports suggest equipment failure as the cause of the incident, no definitive information has been shared. The incident is currently being treated as a workplace accident. Hagerty has chosen not to comment further on the incident out of respect for the deceased.

Following the incident, the M1 was re-packed and removed last night as part of the police investigation. It remains unclear when the Warhol M1 may return to public display.

This unfortunate event serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with the transportation of valuable and historic items. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased truck driver during this difficult time.
