Hospital Patronage

Saint Camillus de Lellis, the patron saint of the sick, healthcare workers, and hospitals, will be honoured during a memorial and patronage service at the district hospital chapel in Schrobenhausen, Germany. The event, scheduled for July 19 at 4 pm, is not only a tribute to the deceased patients of the hospital but also a celebration of the patronage of the chapel dedicated to Saint Camillus de Lellis.

Born over four centuries ago in the Kingdom of Naples, Saint Camillus de Lellis dedicated his life to serving the sick and the poor after a conversion in 1575. He founded the Order of Clerks Regular, Ministers of the Infirm, known as the Camillians, which focused on providing care to the sick and wounded, particularly soldiers on battlefields.

The saint's legacy as a patron saint of hospitals and medical caregivers globally means that his influence on healthcare could be indirectly felt in any hospital committed to compassionate care, including Schrobenhausen District Hospital. His emphasis on caring for both the physical and spiritual needs of patients aligns with the values of many modern hospitals.

The musical direction for the service will be provided by the Pobitschka family and Hans Erlewein, who have a history of leading musical events at the hospital chapel. The chapel, dedicated to Saint Camillus de Lellis, serves as the venue for the memorial and patronage service.

It is worth noting that this is not the only occasion where Saint Camillus de Lellis is honoured at the hospital chapel. His significance to the Schrobenhausen District Hospital extends beyond this memorial service, reflecting his enduring influence on healthcare and caregiving worldwide.
