Government Agency Initiates Campaign to Instruct Seniors on Secure Use of Prescription Medicine
The Health Services for the Elderly Department at the Ministry of Health has initiated an awareness campaign titled "Health through Balanced Medication" to address the risks of polypharmacy among the elderly and their caregivers. This campaign, running from August 17 to August 21, 2025, aims to promote safe and balanced medication use, identify inappropriate or duplicate prescriptions, and encourage periodic medication reviews with healthcare professionals to improve seniors' health and quality of life[1][2][3].
The campaign kicks off today at the Al-Assima Mall (Capital Mall), Kuwait City, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Sunday, it moves to the Al-Assima Mall, followed by the Al-Oyoun Health Center on Monday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The campaign continues at the Jabriya Health Center (Mahmoud Haider) on Tuesday, the Bayan Health Center on Wednesday, and concludes at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital on Thursday, including a comprehensive awareness lecture for doctors and the public[1][3].
Pharmacists participate in the campaign by providing tips on optimal medication use, reminder methods such as medication boxes and phone alerts, and advice on linking medication times to daily routines[1][3]. The campaign's primary focus is on identifying duplicate or inappropriate medications, ensuring safe and effective treatment for the elderly[1][2].
The Ministry encourages the public to follow the campaign updates on their website, Facebook, and Instagram for the latest news and information[2]. This campaign is part of the Ministry's ongoing commitment to raising community awareness about the dangers of polypharmacy and promoting health and wellbeing among the elderly population.
