A New Approach to Aid Distribution in Gaza
Gaza Aid Testing: New Distribution System Implemented in Gaza to Prevent mishaps in Humanitarian Aid Disbursement
Tired of the chaos at distribution centers where lives have been lost, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) is shaking things up with a pilot program. They're now delivering food directly to community leaders in northern Rafah to hand out, bypassing the distribution centers.
In a statement, GHF announced that they distributed 11 trucks brimming with food to these community leaders on a trial basis. Whether this approach will continue remains to be seen as they evaluate the results. To clarify, the group claims these food boxes feed about 1,900 Gazans for 3.5 days each.
As for the identity and function of these "community leaders," the GHF doesn't spill the beans. The GHF has distributed approximately 10,560 food boxes using this method.
The Freedom Flotilla Slams Israeli Forces
Israel defends the GHF's strategy, which primarily focuses on distributing food at several distribution points in the Gaza Strip, as the only way to prevent Hamas from capitalizing on humanitarian aid.
John Acree, acting executive director of GHF, elaborates, "This way, we relieve pressure on the main centers, and boxes are distributed directly to people instead of Hamas members."
Congestion Relief at Distribution Centers
The GHF ensures they distributed 17,000 food boxes at three Rafah delivery centers and the Strip center on a recent Sunday. However, they had to halt operations the day prior due to threats from Hamas members.
Despite these threats, the deliveries went smoothly, according to the Foundation, and without incidents despite Israeli military claims of open fire due to Hamas threats. Palestinian sources report at least five fatalities.
Starting Monday, GHF will launch three new humanitarian aid distribution points. One will be in Wadi Gaza, opening at 6:00 AM, and the other two in Tel Sultan, in the south of the Gaza Strip, opening at noon.
GHF advises the public to stay away from these points before the scheduled opening times.
