Fueling a Cause: The Extraordinary Success of Pump for Parkinson's

Cheers echoed throughout Coffs Harbour as the community rallied behind a magnificent fundraiser orchestrated by Bailey Centre Liberty Service Station and P.K. Express. This unified effort resulted in an astounding $5000 contribution to the Parkinson's Support Group Nurses Fund.

Who were the masterminds behind this remarkable achievement? No less than Kerrie Moody from P.K. Express, Paul Amos from Bailey Centre Liberty Service Station, and Tim Winders and Paul Grant, part of Coffs Harbour's Younger Person Parkinson's Support Group, joined forces to make this mission a reality.

At the outset, the aim was to gather at least $3,000 by donating 10 cents per liter of petrol sold. Enter P.K. Express, the local freight and courier company, who, with a brilliant act of kindness, pledged to add 5 cents per liter sold to the cause, bringing the total target to $5000.

During the 24-hour fundraising period, an impressive 30,000 liters of fuel were sold - a stunning 5,000 liters more than typical daily sales. As Tim Winders from the Coffs Harbour Younger Person Parkinson's Support Group exclaimed, "Our goal was to exceed last year's result of $3000. We were over the moon to surpass that by a whopping 60 percent!"

"Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the Bailey Centre Liberty Service Station and P.K. Express for their benevolence, and to our Coffs community members who showed up in droves to Pump for Parkinson's," Tim added.

All the funds raised during this remarkable event will directly support the endeavors of a Parkinson's Neurological Nurse based in Coffs Harbour. This nurse provides invaluable assistance with home, hospital, clinic, and nursing home assessments, medication supervision, symptom management, referrals, emotional support, and education for those battling Parkinson's.

Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition affecting the brain's ability to control movement, often accompanied by additional symptoms such as mood swings, depression, and anxiety. Regrettably, there is no cure for Parkinson's disease.
