Arnsberg Fire Department Concludes Successful Two-Week ABC Training Course

Last Saturday, the Arnsberg Fire Department concluded a two-week training course focused on handling atomic, biological, and chemical (ABC) hazards. The comprehensive course, led by Werner Franke and Tobias Jakob, aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills to respond effectively to emergency situations involving hazardous materials.

The training took place on the outdoor premises of ALS-Logistics in the industrial area of Gut Nierhof in Voßwinkel. The practical exercises allowed for weather-independent training, providing a realistic environment for the participants to learn and practice their skills.

The training began with a thorough reconnaissance in the danger area, followed by the initiation of initial containment measures. Various measuring and detection devices, special pumps, and containment systems were used during the training to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the equipment and procedures.

In the final exercise, a simulated accident involving a forklift truck and damaged 1,000-liter tanks was used to practice rescue and containment procedures. A drone was also employed for further reconnaissance during the exercise, transmitting real-time images to a screen on the measuring equipment vehicle.

The first team's performance was commended by the instructor team, led by Werner Franke and Tobias Jakob, who were satisfied with the participants' skills and teamwork. The team demonstrated their ability to use and work in a chemical protective suit, decontaminate deployed personnel, and locate, measure, detect, contain, and pump out hazardous materials.

The 12 course participants had already passed their theoretical exam on Friday before the final exercise. They learned the correct procedure in case of a hazardous material release, ensuring they were well-prepared for any real-life situations.

Special thanks go to the instructor team for their commitment, the catering team for the excellent catering, and the company ALS-Logistics for providing the company premises.
