Fine imposed for violating quarantine measures in Almaty region amounts to 66 million tenge
Loose Lips Sink Ships (or Shops) in Almaty: Quarantine Violations and the Ashyq Project
In the ever-evolving game of cat and mouse between citizens and government, the Almaty region of Kazakhstan is no exception. The region has taken a hardline approach to enforcing sanitary and anti-epidemic measures, as stated by Kazinform. To keep a watchful eye on the populace, a whopping 268 monitoring groups have been established in 20 cities and districts.
Ashat Charapiev, the Deputy Head of the regional department of quality and safety control of goods and services, has been leading the charge. These monitoring groups have been extremely busy, conducting 17,818 inspections since the new year. Despite their best efforts, there have been 1025 instances of quarantine regime violations.
The consequences? Breaking the quarantine has cost society a hefty total of 66,131,720 tenge in administrative penalties. 563 objects have felt the sting, followed closely by 426 individual citizens. The severity of the violations varied, but the ones most likely to draw attention were the 138 cases against objects of public catering and entertainment facilities, which amounted to a whopping 31,124,390 tenge in fines.
However, it's not all doom and gloom. Charapiev's team is watching over the situation closely, having started the Ashyq project in Taldykorgan on April 14. By April 26, the project was live across the whole region. As of now, 582 objects are participating, of which 494 have become project supporters, and 88 are testing the waters.
The project seems to be bearing fruit, albeit in a somewhat unexpected way. In Taldykorgan alone, the Ashyq project has identified 57 'yellow' and 36 'red' virus carriers. Additional cases have been found in various districts, as reported by Charapiev.
While it's unclear how well the situation with COVID-19 is stabilizing in Almaty region, one thing is certain - the monitoring groups are keeping their eyes peeled and the violators are not so easily hidden!
(A brief note on context: The Ashyq project is a mobile application designed to help local authorities track the Movement of individuals in public during the pandemic. It's aimed at identifying individuals who may be spreading the virus. The application works by classifying individuals into three categories (Green, Yellow, and Red) based on their health status and adherence to quarantine regulations)
