Elderly Cycling Enthusiasts Spotted in Borken

In the district of Borken, where pedelecs have the highest ownership rate nationwide, the German Red Cross (Rotes Kreuz) has announced a new initiative aimed at ensuring the safety of older cyclists. The initiative, called "Senior Cycling," is part of a preventive effort by the Circular Police Department and will take place regularly in the future.

The kick-off event for Senior Cycling will be held in Gronau on August 28, 2025, before the first event in Borken on September 25, 2025. Further events are scheduled for October 9, 2025, in the Bocholt area, and October 30, 2025, in the Ahaus area.

Registration for the events can be done by phone at 02861-900-6161, and participants will receive a callback. The participant limit for each event is set at twelve people to ensure individual attention.

The Senior Cycling initiative will provide tips on behavior at intersections, roundabouts, bike lane usage, and safety equipment. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of helmets, lights, and safe equipment, especially with the increasing use of pedelecs and e-bikes.

The route guidance for Senior Cycling is based on current accident hotspots in the circular area, with expert discussions covering critical traffic situations experienced firsthand. The goal of Senior Cycling remains focused on safety and prevention, particularly for older cyclists.

For media representatives, the contact for the Senior Cycling initiative in Borken is available at the following contacts: Sandra Biedermann (sb), Leonie Dreier (ld), Markus Huls (mh), Peter Lefering (pl), Thorsten Ohm (to), Muzeyyen Sander (ms), Tina Schellberg (ts).

The Circular Police Department in Borken is excited about the launch of this new initiative and looks forward to promoting safety and preventing accidents among older cyclists in the district. Stay tuned for more updates on Senior Cycling events in the coming months.
