Health Update for Dennis Diekmeier's Daughter

Significant obstacle encountered by girl battling cancer - Devastating blow for the daughter battling cancer

Dana Diekmeier, the wife of former HSV footballer Dennis Diekmeier, has shared an concerning update on the health status of their teenage daughter Delani. In February, Dana revealed that Delani was battling cancer.

Chemotherapy Proves Ineffective

In an Instagram post, Dana reveals that the metastases in Delani's right lung wing have continued to grow despite chemotherapy. The metastases in the left lung wing, which was recently operated on, have also increased. Consequently, chemotherapy treatment will no longer be pursued as it has not proved effective.

The team will now focus on surgically removing the metastases in the right lung wing. The next steps will be discussed by the doctors, and the family awaits further updates.

Recent Surgery on Left Lung Wing

Just a few weeks ago, Dana announced on her Instagram account that Delani had undergone surgery on her left lung wing. During the procedure, 19 abnormalities were removed, but unfortunately, there were more than expected.

Despite the current setback, Dana remains resolute, posting a message that reads "Never give up."

Dana and Dennis Diekmeier have been married since 2010 and have four children together: Dion (11), Damina (9), Divia (7), in addition to the 14-year-old Delani.

Possible Alternative Treatment Approaches

When chemotherapy is not effective for a child with cancer, alternative treatment options can be considered, such as immunotherapy, targeted therapies, clinical trials, collaborative research initiatives, and experimental treatments, depending on the specific type and stage of the cancer. Consultation with a pediatric oncologist is crucial to determine the most appropriate treatment course.

Organizations and Resources

Families navigating childhood cancer treatment challenges may seek support and information from organizations such as the Children's Oncology Group (COG), the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, and the Children's Cancer Therapy Development Institute (cc-TDI). These organizations conduct research, clinical trials, and collaborative initiatives aimed at finding less toxic treatments for childhood cancer.

  1. I'm not going to be able to do this, as the metastases in Delani's right lung wing have continued to grow despite chemotherapy, and the family is now focusing on surgically removing the metastases.
  2. In our struggle with Delani's medical-conditions, we've discovered a strong connection with organizations like the Children's Oncology Group and the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, who are dedicated to science and finding less toxic treatments for health-and-wellness challenges like cancer.
  3. As we face the challenges of parenting a child with cancer, we've come to understand the importance of alternative treatment approaches like immunotherapy and targeted therapies, and the need for consultation with a pediatric oncologist to determine the most effective course of treatment.
