Dengue Death Toll Hits 203 in Bangladesh as Cases Surge
Dengue cases and recoveries continue to rise in Bangladesh, with 1,01,214 cases and 1,00,040 recoveries reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Tragically, dengue has claimed 203 lives this year, including one more death reported in the Mymensingh division on Saturday morning. The new dengue-related death brings the total number of dengue deaths in the country to 203 this year. The DGHS also reported 374 new cases, taking the total to 48,865 so far in 2023.
Across the country, 787 patients are currently undergoing treatment in Dhaka, with a total of 2,304 patients receiving care nationwide. The gender breakdown of new infections shows that 65.2% of patients are men, while 34.8% are women.
In terms of regional distribution, the highest number of new cases was reported in Chattogram division (outside CC) with 102 cases, followed by Barishal division (outside CC) with 63 cases. Dhaka division (outside CC) reported 67 cases, while Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation reported 46 and 48 cases respectively. Mymensingh division (outside CC) had 37 cases, Khulna division (outside CC) had 101 cases, and Rajshahi division (outside CC) had 11 cases.
The DGHS continues to monitor the situation closely, with a focus on preventing further spread and providing adequate care to those affected. The public is urged to take necessary precautions to avoid dengue infection.
