Democrats in a state of surprise over Biden's health concerns.

Cross-examining the final years of U.S. President Joe Biden's tenure, a veil is lifted in a new book claiming that the Democrats have intentionally overlooked the commander-in-chief's apparent deteriorating mental and physical condition, keeping him in power.

Entitled "Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again," the book authored by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson alleges Biden experienced lapses in memory, confusion, and a loss of focus during the last two years of his presidency. Leaked details suggest that his closest aides took measures to shield him from public scrutiny, masking the extent of his decline.

Accounts from Democratic lawmakers, White House staff members, cabinet officials, as well as political donors, portrayed an image of shock as they witnessed Biden's gradual deterioration. Driven by self-interest and the fear of another term under Donald Trump, the book claims that those around Biden fostered a determination to have him re-elected despite growing misgivings about his fitness to hold office.

Once campaigning for re-election, Biden found himself stumbling in his composition, forgetting the names of his closest aides, and losing his train of thought during debates, the book alleges. This revelation echoed concerns shared by the public, who witnessed a significantly diminished performance during the 2024 elections.

Such incidents prompted discussions among Democrats regarding Biden's capacity to handle a national emergency at any hour of the day, with some cabinet members voicing doubts about his readiness. Biden's staff claimed they had been concerned about his health as early as 2020, with concerns intensifying in the two years preceding his disastrous debate with Trump in June 2024.

At one point during this period, the book claims, Biden couldn't recall the names of National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Communications Director Kate Bedingfield in December 2022. By fall 2023, Biden's encounters with party figures went unrecognized, and in early 2024, he was unable to identify actor George Clooney - a longtime acquaintance.

Amid mounting questions about Biden's decision to run for re-election, stirred by his recent diagnosis of "aggressive prostate cancer" that has spread to his bones, the debate over his candidate status continues. Tony Vance, Vice President, expressed sympathy for Biden's health but questioned his ability to fulfill presidential duties, urging the American public to consider this before casting their votes in light of his waning strength.

In an interview with special advisor Robert Hur regarding the classified documents affair, Hur characterized Biden as "a sympathetic, well-meaning older man with poor memory," which raised further concerns about Biden's cognitive capacity prior to the 2024 elections.

Tapper and Thompson based their book on over 200 interviews, primarily with Democratic insiders who shared their perspectives following the 2024 elections. The book offers a telling illustration of Biden's tumultuous presidency, providing a glimpse into the occasional chaos and insecurity that framed his final years in power.
