COVID-19 Developments: Mumbai Reports 27 New Cases; Maharashtra Currently Has 76 Active Patients
Mumbai, May 29 - COVID-19 Update:
In the latest development, Maharashtra reported 84 new COVID-19 cases on May 29, bringing the total count to 597 since the beginning of the year, according to the state health department. Notably, Mumbai remains the epicenter with 379 cases reported so far.
The department also reported that a total of 9,592 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the state since January 2021.
With the increasing number of respiratory illnesses during the monsoon, differentiating between COVID-19 and the flu has become a crucial clinical focus. In this regard, Dr. Dhiraj Bhattad, a consultant in internal medicine at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital stated that both viruses can manifest symptoms like fever, sore throat, cough, cold, headache, body pain, and fatigue. However, the loss of taste and smell is a distinguishable characteristic of COVID-19.
Despite the rise in cases, health officials reassure that the symptoms reported in Maharashtra remain mostly mild, and there is no need for alarm. Additionally, they attribute the mildness of symptoms to extensive vaccination rates and natural immunity among the population.
Flu cases, on the other hand, appear to be exhibiting more severe symptoms compared to COVID-19, which could be due to a majority of individuals having already received the Covid vaccine.
Regarding a senior doctor facing allegations of asking a colleague to 'kill' COVID-19 patients, an FIR has been filed against him.
According to the latest data, Maharashtra has 467 active cases, and deaths remain low but are being reported.
In the health-and-wellness sector, India has reported a surge in COVID-19 cases, with Mumbai being the epicenter, despite extensive vaccination and natural immunity among the population. Meanwhile, flu cases seem to be exhibiting more severe symptoms compared to COVID-19, potentially due to a majority of individuals having received the Covid vaccine, signifying a shift in the business landscape of India's health sector.
