China-based Ambassador Yao Wen and health advisor Nurjahan hold talks regarding China's medical equipment supply.

China and Bangladesh are strengthening their health sector cooperation, with a focus on the supply of kidney dialysis machines and related training for Bangladesh's medical professionals. The discussions took place in a meeting between Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum and Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen on 30 July.

The meeting, as reported in a health ministry press release, discussed the government's plan to procure kidney dialysis machines from China. The Chinese government will also aid in delivering essential training to operate the medical equipment. This cooperation aligns with Bangladesh’s increasing need to address kidney disease treatment, as the number of such patients and related fatalities is reportedly rising.

In addition to this ongoing cooperation, Bangladesh is simultaneously expanding its dialysis treatment infrastructure. Public-private partnerships (PPPs) have been instrumental in this expansion, with hemodialysis projects in Dhaka and Chittagong significantly increasing national capabilities. While these projects are not explicitly stated to be supported by China, they provide context for Bangladesh’s broader strategy in enhancing dialysis services, where bilateral cooperation could play a complementary role.

Furthermore, the meeting also touched upon other ongoing and future cooperation in the health sector. Notably, the meeting did not provide any new information about the construction of the 1,000-bed modern hospital in Rangpur or the launch of mobile hospital services.

Dr. Sayedur Rahman, a senior health official, announced plans to install 1,200 dialysis machines in divisional and district hospitals in Bangladesh. The installation of these dialysis machines aims to reduce the long-term suffering of kidney patients.

The Chinese government's cooperation is considered crucial in implementing this initiative. The supply of dialysis machines and related training will undoubtedly strengthen the relationship between the two countries. However, specific new project details from China remain to be further disclosed.

In conclusion, China and Bangladesh are actively involved in supplying kidney dialysis machines and supporting training as part of ongoing health sector cooperation plans. This cooperation will help Bangladesh address its increasing need for kidney disease treatment and expand its dialysis treatment infrastructure.

  • The Chinese government's cooperation, as discussed in the meeting, includes the supply of kidney dialysis machines and essential training to operating medical equipment, contributing to Bangladesh's efforts to enhance its health-and-wellness sector, specifically focusing on addressing medical-conditions related to kidney disease.
  • The implementation of the initiative to install 1,200 dialysis machines in divisional and district hospitals in Bangladesh, announced by Dr. Sayedur Rahman, will be significantly strengthened by the Chinese government's provision of dialysis machines and related training, aligning with the broader strategy in enhancing dialysis services through science and fitness-and-exercise-related technologies.
