Charity initiative continues with 10,001 Euro raised for pediatric hospice via a walkathon.
Markus Pfennings, ardent hiker and philanthropist, recently handed over a substantial donation to Anja Claus, director of the Stups Hospice. This charitable initiative emerged from Pfennings' extensive hiking expeditions this spring, with the support of his wife Claudia and daughters Lea (13) and Lisa (10).
Pfennings managed to cover 450 kilometers himself, while also inspiring 12 other individuals to join his endeavor, earning a combined total of 2,445 sponsored kilometers. Additional contributions were made by friends, two companies, and various networks.
The adventurous hikes took place in different regions of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), the Eifel, and the Dutch border region, with the longest trek spanning 66 kilometers. Another memorable moment was participating in the Venloop 42-kilometer walking marathon, where Pfennings claimed the title of the fastest German participant. The family's vacation in the Bavarian Forest also included scenic hikes, such as a melodious stroll along the Moldau.
Pfennings expressed great satisfaction with the record donation, but his joy was heightened by a special moment during the last hiking day. Accompanied by supporters from across NRW, he arrived at Burg Linn in Krefeld, where hospice children and their siblings warmly welcomed him. This touching encounter evoked strong emotions among the group.
Center director Anja Claus expressed gratitude for the initiative, stating that the Stups Hospice community was moved by Markus's effort and the attention it garnered. The resources raised will be used to fund "Father's Evenings," part of the family work program, which aims to support fathers navigating the challenges posed by having a terminally ill or sick child.
This remarkable hiking fundraiser has made a significant impact on Stups Hospice, boosting facilities, procuring medical equipment, and enhancing patient care. It has also raised awareness about the importance of hospice care and engaged the community in supporting this vital cause. Markus Pfennings' journey symbolizes endurance, empathy, and commitment to make a difference in people's lives.
What was the focus of Markus Pfennings' recent charitable initiative? His hiking endeavor raised funds for the Stups Hospice's "Father's Evenings," a program that aims to aid fathers with terminally ill or sick children, and also boosted science, health-and-wellness, and fitness-and-exercise, as Pfennings inspired others to join his hikes.
