Ceremony held for expansion of Magdalene Home facility

The picturesque city of Bingen is set to witness an exciting development as the Magdalenenheim and Holy Ghost Hospital undergo significant expansions.

The Magdalenenheim, following a comprehensive renovation, will soon see a three-story extension, funded by the modernization program of the Free State of Bavaria and the KfW funding bank through federal funding for efficient buildings. The current cost estimate for this extension is a substantial 9.6 million euros.

Architect Bernhard Fischer, who has overseen the project, described the new building at the Magdalenenheim as having a "spectacular location." The extension, designed with modern, warm wood tones, will house 21 newly created rooms, nine of which are wheelchair-accessible, ensuring inclusivity for all.

The first and second floors of the Magdalenenheim extension will be home to station support points, while the basement houses technical rooms and the laundry. A new station bathroom is also being created as part of the extension. Each floor will feature a common room, and all rooms will have access to a terrace or loggia, offering residents a chance to enjoy the city's beautiful views.

To compensate for the loss of the Kneipp garden, a Kneipp room with an outdoor area on the flat roof of the Magdalenenheim extension has been planned.

Meanwhile, the Holy Ghost Hospital, which operates alongside the Magdalenenheim under the Holy Ghost Hospital Foundation, is also undergoing modernization. Extensive construction measures are now planned, and remarkably, these will occur during ongoing operations to minimise disruption.

The city's two facilities, the Holy Ghost Hospital and the Magdalenenheim, will benefit from these expansions, which are necessitated by the modernization. The expansion of the Holy Ghost Hospital is planned, although specific details have yet to be announced.

The construction at the Holy Ghost Hospital and the Magdalenenheim extension is being overseen by the Holy Ghost Hospital Foundation, the Department of Building and Environment, and the Building Management Office. The Magdalenenheim extension's construction progress was showcased during the topping-out ceremony, with its residents expressing their appreciation for the tour of the shell.

These developments promise to enhance the quality of care and facilities at the Magdalenenheim and Holy Ghost Hospital, ensuring they continue to serve the city of Bingen and its residents admirably.
