Centenarian commemorates birthday, shares her age-defying culinary method
Bam! I'm the Oldest Cat in Town!
That's right, ol' Elisabeth Kronfeldt, she's the granddame of Templin now, spinning her sprightly 104 years, causing quite a stir on her big day! Her doorbell rang like a merry-go-round, as folks from far and wide dropped by to bid congrats to this remarkable woman.
Family Genes: A Recipe for Longevity
Seems like aging gracefully runs in Elisabeth's family. Ask her herself, and she'll tell you that her great-grandpa lived to 101, her aunt made it to 103. Now, who becomes a centenarian? Not many folks, that's for damn sure.
Born and bred in Hardenbeck, Elisabeth's been calling Templin home since 1951. "Three siblings I had," she says, shaking her head at their pilgrimage. "The lucky bastards, all of 'em shuffled off this mortal coil. I'm the lone rider in this wild west show of a lifetime." Elisabeth shakes her head in disbelief, half-laughing at her silver-tongued humor.
A Teacher Extraordinaire
Elisabeth speaks with a warmth that makes you wish you'd been one of the kiddos she taught. She worked at a children's home in Brüssow and later became a kindergarten teacher in Templin. A handful of her former colleagues showed up to her birthday bash, craving a much-needed dose of those legendary teaching tales.
Staying Active Till 95, Babe!
"Ma'am's social circle is bigger than a damn marching band!" her son Lutz jokes, while his wife Beate adds, "It's thanks to her staying active well into her golden years."
Elisabeth's got an edge - a passion for water gymnastics that she pursued until she was 95. Through the local adult education center, she took courses and even tried out some memory training and laughter yoga. You know what they say, if you don't use it, you lose it? Well, she ain't losing a thing!
Keep on Traveling, Mama!
In retirement, Elisabeth became something of a world-traveler. "I've been to the North Cape," she says, her eyes lighting up like the Northern Lights. "It's a kick in the pants to stand there and gaze upon the Arctic Ocean."
Her 99th birthday was extra special, thanks to a family gift covering a glider flight. "That was one crazy ride!" she laughs.
A Generation of Gratitude
Beate and Lutz appreciate their old lady for making hay while the sun shines. "She's of a generation that's filled with great gratitude," Lutz says, his pride palpable.
Templin's new mayor, Christian Hartfield (SPD), visits the centenarian for the first time in his mayorship. "You're the first birthday girl I've congratulated," he says, beaming. Christian's only 47, he's just started his term!
Elisabeth's got a couple of boys, two grandkids, and four great-grandkids in her brood. Her oldest boy's long gone, and her old man passed away 34 years ago.
A Hundredth Birthday Carriage Ride
Remember her 100th birthday? Elisabeth started the day with a horse-drawn carriage ride. There's a little story tied to that ride, Lutz says. "The young buck who drove us promised a free ride when she turns 110." "We'll see about that," Elisabeth quips, winking like a boss.
