Björn-Hergen Schimpf Takes a Heavy Fall, Amputation After Years of Struggles

Björn-Hergen Schimpf, a Moderator, faces amputation of a leg.

Hear it straight from his buddy and fellow presenter, Jörg Draeger—television stalwart Björn-Hergen Schimpf has faced a brutal setback. In this week's issue of "Bunte" mag, Draeger spills the beans that Schimpf, recognized for hosting the popular guessing game "What Am I?" ("Which Pig Is It?") for about six years, had to bid farewell to a leg.

Jörg tells it like it is, "Terrible news, they had to take off Björn-Hergen's leg. That's a tough one." However, he also shares that the 81-year-old Schimpf's spirit remains unbroken: "Thank goodness, he's still his usual self."

A Decade of Struggles with Health Issues

According to the article, the presenter has been dealing with complications linked to his left leg for close to a decade. Back in 2016, Schimpf underwent a bypass surgery to tackle poor blood flow. Initially, the procedure saved his leg.

Björn-Hergen Schimpf kicked off his lengthy career as a presenter in the late 70s at Radio Luxembourg. He commented on current affairs with the puppet Karlchen on RTL plus from 1984 to 1992 in an ironic fashion. Besides the reboot of "What Am I?", he later presented the travel quiz "A Day Like No Other" and worked for "Sunshine.TV". In 2008, he made a splash in the RTL jungle camp and finished in eighth place.
