Sizzling Summer Grills: Germans Go Veggie with a Twist! 🔥 🌮 🍆

An increasing number of individuals opt for a plant-based diet.

Summer's heat is on, and the aroma of grills is shifting! Vegetables, cheese, or even pizza are taking center stage on German grills. A survey reveals that people favor meatless meals, signaling a decline in meat consumption.

Grillin' it up, Veggie-style!

Traditional grilled meats like sausages, pork steaks, and chicken thighs might still be popular, but the grill scene is getting greener and more adventurous. Forget the meaty smell; now, it's all about the zing of grilled veggies, cheese, and even watermelon! The online supermarket Crispy and the market research company Appinio polled 1,000 Germans aged 18 to 65 about their grilling preferences in July 2024.

The results are quite a shocker: One-third of people are predominantly vegetarian or vegan grillers, and 57% are open to meatless options. It's clear as day - variety at the grill is the new trend! Who knew 24% would even put a pizza on the grill, or nearly one in five grill watermelon, duck, avocado, or egg? It seems there are no boundaries to our creativity!

Chow down! Summer flavors without the meat

One thing's for sure: Sausages still rule the German grilling scene, favorite among 65% of respondents. But grilled veggies have captured the hearts of women, taking the number one spot in their list of favorites! Among youngsters (18-24), grilled cheese is all the rage – 51% adore it.

What's even more interesting? Age groups grill differently! Veggie-loving 18-24-year-olds are increasingly opting for meatless alternatives, while the 55-65 age group sticks to pork steak and sausages, with only a paltry 14% occasionally reaching for meat substitutes. Manufacturers are jumping on the bandwagon, with more and more plant-based burgers, sausages, and marinated tofu gracing the shelves. It's official: Summers are bound to be smokin' hot, diverse, and extremely tasty, no matter your meat preferences!
