Tear Gas Incident at Tropical Islands Injures 17 Visitors

Seventeen tourists were injured Sunday evening at Tropical Islands, Brandenburg's most visited tourist attraction, due to a tear gas attack. Berliner Zeitung (B.Z.) reported that police spokesman Lutz Miersch confirmed the incident.

At around 10:30 PM, a tear gas alarm was triggered within the premises of Tropical Islands. Initially, reports indicated numerous injuries, leading to the declaration of a "mass casualty incident." On the scene, emergency responders found several injured individuals in the tented area of the vast hall. The victims ranged in age from 4 to 61 and complained of irritated eyes and, in some instances, difficulty breathing. Miersch added that lucky no hospitalizations were required.

The exact circumstances surrounding the tear gas release in the tent area, where Miersch mentioned two "youth groups" were accommodated, remained unclear. Nor could the origin of the tear gas be definitively determined, as it was uncertain whether it was deliberately or negligently released. However, it was confirmed that the attackers had fled, and the police are now investigating for dangerous bodily harm.

The number of guests at Tropical Islands at the time of the incident is also indeterminate.

Despite unconfirmed rumors suggesting a dispute between Turkish youth groups as the background for the incident, Miersch asserted that all injured individuals possess either German or Central European names.

searches related to the incident did not yield any results concerning a tear gas incident or Turkish youth groups at Tropical Islands. The investigation concerning the Tropical Islands incident is ongoing.
