Living Every Day Like It's Gold: The Unwavering Spirit of Patrice Aminati

In the face of adversity, Patrice Aminati, a 30-year-old battling stage four malignant melanoma, remains fierce and defiant. In April 2023, she publicly announced her diagnosis, just months after welcoming her first child with husband, TV presenter Daniel Aminati. Despite the grim prognosis, this fraught journey has only deepened their love and shared resolve.

As the cancer metastasized to her lungs, Patrice underwent intense treatments, including radiotherapy and medication with severe side effects, all while enduring "unimaginable pain." Yet, despite the odds, hope flickered within her. She gained temporary freedom from the disease, only to discover new metastases. Today, she continues to receive palliative care, with doctors deeming her incurable.

In early 2024, a radiation therapist gave her grim news, suggesting she may only have six months left to live. But Patrice, ever the fighter, dismissively replied, "We'll see about that at Christmas!" She believes every patient writes their own statistics, and her fierce determination is palpable.

Life's Silver Linings: Aminatis Bright Future

Despite the gloom, Patrice and Daniel haven't let their burgeoning family be swallowed by despair. Just recently, they announced plans to renew their vows on April 27, 2027. While a second pregnancy is currently impossible due to her medication, the couple still longs for a sibling for their daughter, Charly Malika.

Yet, the specter of their worst fears still looms large. "I couldn't imagine Patrice would die. But at some point, I realized that I had to at least allow myself to think about it. I'm not making friends with it, never. But I have to deal with it," Daniel admits. He grapples with what life would look like without Patrice, from the mundane tasks like braiding their daughter's hair to the myriad ways her absence would be felt.

"I think I'm a pretty good father. But I can't do it as well as you can," Daniel confesses, acknowledging the magnitude of Patrice's role in their family. He shares moments of fear, wondering how he will cope when she's no longer by his side. Yet, Daniel emphasizes the importance of not succumbing to fear, a lesson he's learned throughout this tumultuous journey.

Embracing Death, Fearing for the Living

While Patrice doesn't fear death itself, the thought of leaving her loved ones behind fills her with dread. "I've never feared death itself. I don't believe in heaven and hell, but I do believe that some form of liberation awaits us. I feared for the others: For me, the thought of leaving our daughter behind is terrible. How will Daniel cope?"

She hopes that after her death, Daniel will find someone to support him. Despite the heavy burden of her illness, Patrice continues to shine a light of hope and strength for her family and anyone who crosses her path.

The Silence Surrounding Cancer

Patrice understands why cancer is often a taboo topic in Germany. "Cancer is not a broken arm. The disease is eerie and initially invisible. Having cancer means talking about a possible death. Many don't want that."

However, Patrice believes that her decision to go public with her diagnosis has been a blessing. "Since then, I can exchange ideas, learn from others how they deal with the disease. Or people write to me that they finally went for cancer screening. It gives me strength to know that I might have helped someone."
